- It is commonly used as a base during the preparation of esters and amides from acyl chlorides.
- Triethylamine is used as a catalytic solvent in chemical syntheses, as an accelerator activator for rubber, as a corrosion inhibitor, as a curing and hardening agent for polymers, and as a propellant.
- Triethylamine is also used in the manufacture of wetting, penetrating, and waterproofing agents of quaternary ammonium compounds, for the desalination of seawater, to give salts of various carboxylic acid-containing pesticides, and as the active ingredient in FlyNap, a product for anesthetizing Drosophila melanogaster.
